About Us

The Houses of the Oireachtas Commission Communications Strategy aims to promote greater public interest and understanding of the work of our parliament and that of its members. The strategy is managed by the Houses of the Oireachtas Communications Unit and its programme of activity breaks into three core areas : Common to each strand is a more proactive effort to engage directly with the public. Through the media we disseminate accurate and up-to-date information so that what is reported to you about our national parliament in both the national and local press provides you with factual and balanced information.

Our Education Outreach Programme provides a direct and dedicated parliamentary education to the next generation of voters. What could be more important in any democracy other than providing citizens with the essential knowledge that can empower them to engage with their democracy throughout their lives.
This is what the House of the Oireachtas Education Outreach Programme seeks to do in every school throughout Ireland. To date, 10,000 students have participated in the programme.

Information and Events consists of devices that can directly engage with the public and animate the parliamentary system in a way that helps greater understanding of its work. New visitor materials, a nationwide public events programme, an enhanced and user-friendly www.oireachtas.ie and a new educational short film and DVD form part of our new Information and Events programme.
